In 2007, I could have sworn President Barack Obama was supposed to be the savior of the Democrat Party. The smooth talking, suave Illinois senator had everything to bring the party together and end any GOP dominance. Well, it turns out, the Democrats have lost 1,030 seats across the board since Obama took office in January 2008. This includes seats in state's houses and senates, governorships, and Congress.

Mika is Woman: hear her roar! Mika Brzezinski had a suggestion for Donald Trump on today's Morning Joe. After Hillary, in the debate, "cleaned his clock" and "wiped the floor" with him, Mika suggested that Trump might want to "bow down" in acknowledgement of the strength of women. Mika was still furious after an opening segment in which she and the other panelists trashed Trump for having, among other things, "weight shamed" a former Miss Universe. Admitted Mika "just to be shallow, I have to say given all his comments about women . . . I'm really glad that a woman cleaned his clock. I'm really glad that she wiped the floor with him. I love it. I love it."

A massive hack of the Democratic National Committee's email system cost former Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz her job. A few weeks after Wikileaks published more than 19,000 hacked emails from top Democratic Party officials, investigators have indicated the personal email accounts of more than 100 Hillary campaign officials and other organizations may have been targeting in the attack. The New York Times reported:
The main targets appear to have been the personal email accounts of Hillary Clinton’s campaign officials and party operatives, along with a number of party organizations.

Two recent discussions lay out a path to victory for Marcio Rubio in the 2016 Presidential election.  The New York Sun's Conrad Black even writes that the presidential election is Marco Rubio's to lose. According to Black, the Republicans have an advantage in the general election, whoever wins the nomination:
a party has won three consecutive presidential elections only when the incumbent was very popular at the end of the second term or when there were unusual encumbrances to a change.
It is fair to say that Barack Obama is not very popular.  According to Gallup, his approval rating is below average for President entering their eighth year in office.  "Unusual encumbrances to a change" is an awkward formulation, but there is nothing obvious at present.  So Black gives the nod to the Republicans.

There is a really interesting article by Sean Trende at Real Clear Politics regarding congressional redistricting. The common mainstream wisdom has been that redistricting really is not helping Republians that much, and that Democrats even may gain a seat or two nationwide.  But Trend details how...

I have been addressing in some detail the assertion that Sarah Palin should not be seriously considered by Republican voters because Palin cannot win a general election, so I will not repeat myself.  Admittedly, I have been somewhat narrow in my focus, driven by circumstances that the "can't win" meme...
