The news of South Australia floated under the radar until the South Australia Police tweeted that residents cannot even walk their dog or exercise during the six-day lockdown to combat COVID-19.

The state went into complete lockdown Thursday night local time:

Officials also said many outdoor activities, including exercise outside of the home, are prohibited. Only one person per household is permitted to leave the home on a single day for essential activities, such as going to the grocery store.

Facial coverings in public are mandatory.

South Australian Premier Steven Marshall announced the restrictions at a media briefing Wednesday afternoon local time, saying that a “circuit breaker” was needed in order to keep the community safe.

“We cannot wait to see how bad this becomes,” Marshall said.

“We must act swiftly and decisively on the health advice to stay ahead of the game. That health advice is that we need a circuit breaker. We need a circuit breaker to stay ahead of this,” he added.

The South Australia Police have a heavy presence on its border with Victoria.

It is now Friday, November 20, in South Australia. The police will remain on the “hard border” for 48 hours. They will leave when “a permit system comes into effect from 11.59pm on Saturday.”

The police check every vehicle that tries to cross the border. Truck drivers have an exemption, but must have their temperatures taken and can choose to have a COVID-19 test. Others with medical or emergency reasons can also cross the border.

You better believe the South Australia Police received a lashing on Twitter.

I love geniuses who think they can control viruses. I love them even more when they think they should control a virus that’s about as deadly as influenza and as easily transmitted.

I’m with Tony Heller, what Aus and NZ have done is create a defenseless population that can’t be unlocked because any new infection will spread like wildfire as nobody has immunity.

They’re the same geniuses who think they can control guns, which don’t slip through cloth masks or even most chain-link fences. And they have failed even at that for 60 years.
