If this happens, Yale will come under increasing pressure to do the same.

    WSLS News reports:

Washington & Lee University potential name change draws criticism from former president’s descendant

A woman with ties to Washington & Lee University’s founding is not happy about the recent name change proposal.

“I’m very angry,” said Tina Tabor, who feels like history is being destroyed.

She is a descendant of Robert Alexander, who served as president of Augusta Academy, which later became Washington & Lee University.

Currently, W&L faculty members are working on a petition to change the name in response to the nationwide emphasis on removing public references to the Confederacy in the wake of the death of George Floyd.

The “Lee” in the university’s name refers to Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

You cannot appease the left. They will always demand more.

W&L would not exist were it not for Robert E. Lee.

Many of Lee’s men were willing to fight on, but Lee chose to surrender with honor.

He offered his sword to General Grant, who refused it. It was one of Grant’s finest moments.

Lee accepted the invitation to become Washington College’s president after the war and saved it from bankruptcy. He established both a business school and a journalism school. He had the chapel built but insisted that it not be dedicated to one faith. He instituted the honor code that is still in effect today.

Lee did much to reconcile the South to its surrender, leading by example. Lee was posing for an artist who told him, “I don’t work with Yankees.” Lee replied, “We’re all Americans now.”

People are honored with monuments for the GOOD they do, not BECAUSE of the actions our era now considers faults. People who owned slaves were not memorialized BECAUSE they owned slaves but for some other attribute their community wanted to honor.

Washington and Lee provided my son with an outstanding education. I will be devastated if it surrenders to the mob.
