Today’s update starts with some disturbing news for residents of New York City.

Like, New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio has read the reports of beaches across the country, from California to Virginia, being visited by quarantine-weary citizens. Furthermore, there are stories that New York City’s residents are partying like its Mardi Gras in some sections of the city.

He now is threatening to escalate his plans for mandated social distancing over the Memorial Day holiday.

As state beaches begin to open for Memorial Day weekend, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said that all city beaches will remain closed and threatened to put up fences to keep people off the sand.

The city has taken the biggest hit in the country from the coronavirus pandemic. De Blasio stressed the need to stay closed even as many states begin to lift restrictions and reopen businesses.

“For folks in local communities who walk on the beach, walk on the boardwalk, they can still do that. But no swimming, no lifeguards, no congregating,” de Blasio told “Sunday Morning Futures.”

“I don’t want to do it, but if I have to, I will,” he said of the possible fencing.

He even threatened to take people “right out of the water.

“Anyone tries to get in the water, they’ll be taken right out of the water,” he told reporters.

Maybe someone should tell the Mayor that Vitamin D helps alleviate the symptoms of COVID-19symptoms of COVID-19.

President Trump says he takes hydroxychloroquine

President Donald Trump says that he has been taking hydroxychloroquine, an effective and inexpensive anti-malaria drug, to stave off the novel coronavirus.

Trump said he has been taking hydroxychloroquine and a zinc supplement daily “for about a week and a half now.”

Trump has spent weeks pushing the drug as a potential cure for COVID-19, despite there being no consensus on its effectiveness or safety. Dr. Sean Conley, the president’s physician, announced in a statement Monday night, “After numerous discussions he and I had about regarding the evidence for and against the use of hydroxychloroquine, we concluded the potential benefit from treatment outweighed the relative risks.”

…Trump said his doctor did not recommend the drug to him, but he requested it from the White House physician.

“I started taking it, because I think it’s good,” Trump said. “I’ve heard a lot of good stories.”

Moderna Coronavirus Vaccine Trial Shows Promising Early Results

It looks like vaccine development is going at Warp Speed.

The first coronavirus vaccine to be tested in people appears to be safe and able to stimulate an immune response against the infection, the manufacturer, Moderna, announced on Monday, offering a glint of hope to a world desperate for ways to stop the pandemic.

The preliminary findings, in the first eight people who each received two doses of the experimental vaccine, must now be repeated in far larger tests in hundreds and then thousands of people, to find out if the vaccine can work in the real world. Moderna’s technology, involving genetic material from the virus called mRNA, is relatively new and has yet to produce any approved vaccine.

Landmark study shows coronavirus did NOT come from animals in Wuhan market

The UK Daily Mail has revealed that specialist biologists have concluded that all available data shows the Wuhan Coronavirus was taken into the market by someone already carrying the disease.

They also say they were ‘surprised’ to find the virus was ‘already pre-adapted to human transmission’, contrasting it to another coronavirus that evolved rapidly as it spread around the planet in a previous epidemic.

The explosive claims come as Beijing thwarts global efforts to establish the source of the virus. The news will fuel concerns over the Communist regime’s cover-up since the disease emerged last year in the central Chinese city.

The new research is clear in its finding. ‘The publicly available genetic data does not point to cross-species transmission of the virus at the market,’ said Alina Chan, a molecular biologist, and Shing Zhan, an evolutionary biologist. Their paper insists all routes for ‘zoonotic’ (animal to human) transmission – in this case from bats – must be examined. It says: ‘The possibility that a non-genetically engineered precursor could have adapted to humans while being studied in a laboratory should be considered.’

China confirms US accusations that it destroyed early samples of the novel coronavirus

Chinese officials reported that they ordered laboratories to destroy samples of the new coronavirus, claiming it was due to “biosafety reasons.”

The announcement comes after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has repeatedly said that China refused to give virus samples taken from patients infected with COVID-19 in late December last year and that officials had destroyed early samples, according to South China Morning Post.

Liu Dengfeng, an official with the Chinese National Health Commission’s science and education department, said in a Beijing briefing on Friday that the samples were destroyed to “prevent the risk to laboratory biological safety and prevent secondary disasters caused by unidentified pathogens.”

Over 100 Million in China’s Northeast Face Renewed Lockdown

The new outbreak in Northeast China continues to grow.

Some 108 million people in China’s northeast region are being plunged back under lockdown conditions as a new and growing cluster of infections causes a backslide in the nation’s return to normal.

In an abrupt reversal of the re-opening taking place across the nation, cities in Jilin province have cut off trains and buses, shut schools and quarantined tens of thousands of people. The strict measures have dismayed many residents who had thought the worst of the nation’s epidemic was over.

People “are feeling more cautious again,” said Fan Pai, who works at a trading company in Shenyang, a city in nearby Liaoning province that’s also facing renewed restrictions. “Children playing outside are wearing masks again” and health care workers are walking around in protective gear, she said. “It’s frustrating because you don’t know when it will end.”

Will he arrest illegal immigrants as well, or does it fall under sanctuary city protocols

    Milhouse | May 19, 2020 at 2:18 pm

the Wuhan Coronavirus was taken into the market by someone already carrying the disease.

This is consistent with the possibility that lab animals that were supposed to be destroyed somehow ended up at the market instead. Which is exactly the sort of thing one can expect to happen in a society like China’s.

I was going to write some sarcastic over-the-top bit about De Blasio laying a minefield on the beach to prevent beachgoers, but The Babylon Bee beat me to it.
