UK: Jewish Chronicle Urges British Voters Not To Elect Jeremy Corbyn As Prime Minister
Jewish Chronicle: ‘The vast majority of British Jews consider Jeremy Corbyn an anti-Semite’
The leading British Jewish newspaper has pleaded with UK voters not to vote for Labour party leader, Jeremy Corbyn, accusing him of racism. British Jews “worry about the prospect of Mr Corbyn as prime Minister,” London-based Jewish Chronicle wrote in a blistering front-page editorial on Friday.
British voters are heading to the polls on December 12, after Prime Minister Boris Johnson called for an early election to put an end to the Brexit stalemate.
The editorial cited Corbyn’s long history of aligning himself with Jew haters and Palestinian terrorists, the newspaper asked: “Is it any wonder Jews worry about the prospect of Mr Corbyn as prime minister?”
It highlighted Corbyn links to Hamas and Hezbollah, the Islamic terrorist groups which the Labour leader has referred to as his “friends.” “How can the racist views of a party leader – and the deep fear he inspires among an ethnic minority – not be among the most fundamental of issues?” the newspaper asked.
“The vast majority of British Jews consider Jeremy Corbyn to be an antisemite, In the most recent poll, last month, the figure was 87 per cent,” the editorial said. Since Corbyn took over the Labour leadership four years ago, the party has been hit by “a vile wave of anti-Semitism among activists,” the Daily Mail confirmed. According to a recent poll, 47 percent of British Jews are “seriously considering” leaving the country if Labour wins the next month’s general election.
London-based Jewish Chronicle published the editorial in its Friday edition:
History has forced our community to be able to spot extremism as it emerges — and Jeremy Corbyn’s election as Labour leader in 2015 is one such example.
Throughout his career, he has allied with and supported antisemites such as Paul Eisen, Stephen Sizer and Raed Salah. He has described organisations like Hamas, whose founding charter commits it to the extermination of every Jew on the planet, as his “friends”. He has laid a wreath to honour terrorists who have murdered Jews. He has insulted “Zionists” — the word used by antisemites when they mean “Jew” because they think it allows them to get away with it — as lacking understanding of “English irony”.
There were some who hoped that he might change as leader. The opposite has happened. The near total inaction of Mr Corbyn and the rest of the Labour leadership in dealing with antisemites in the party has both emboldened them and encouraged others.
Indeed, Mr Corbyn and his allies have actively impeded action against the racists.
Instead of listening to and learning from mainstream Jewish bodies such as the Board of Deputies and Jewish Leadership Council, Mr Corbyn has treated them and their recommendations with contempt — and given support to fringe organisations set up solely to deny the existence of Labour antisemitism.
Corbyn has a long history of associating himself with various Palestinian terrorist groups. Last year, British newspaper published photos showing him laying wreath at the graves of Arab terrorists behind the killing of eleven Israel athletes at the 1972 Olympics.
Earlier this year, the Islamic terrorist group Hamas “saluted” Corbyn for supporting their cause. Hamas, which wages a war of terror against Israeli civilians, expressed “great respect and appreciation” for the Labour leader’s support for the Nakba Day rally in Central London. The annual march is organized by Islamist and Far-Left groups to mark the creation of the Jewish State of Israel as Nakba or the “Day of the Catastrophe.”
“We have received with great respect and appreciation the solidarity message sent by the British Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn to the participants in the mass rally,” the Gaza-based Islamic terror outfit said in a statement. “We also salute Mr Jeremy Corbyn for his principled position in rejecting the so-called Trump plan for the Middle East.”
Many in the mainstream media are thrilled at the prospect of having a socialist at Downing Street. CNN called him a leader who has “an unashamedly socialist plan to transform Britain.” Ahead of the election, the New York Times remarked that “the socialism of Labour’s Jeremy Corbyn is beginning to look like a relatively reasonable option.” The Washington Post noted that for “leftists in the United States, Jeremy Corbyn’s campaign had been an unexpected thrill ride.”
With five weeks to go until the general election, Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his Conservatives hold a seven point lead over Corbyn’s Labour, enough to give them a majority of 50 in the 650-seat Lower House. The Tory lead, however, has been narrowing over the recent weeks as pro-EU Liberal Democrats and the Green party float a ‘Remain Alliance,’ targeting dozens of seats.
Johnson’s stubborn refusal to strike any sort of deal with Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party may split the pro-Brexit vote and cost some winnable seats. A Conservative defeat will likely mean a reversal of Brexit and the country’s reintegration into the European Union on bitter surrender terms dictated by Brussels.

Liberal today means Anti-Semite.
This is even more subtle and serious, and why Jews have a problem if they persist.
Consider if you don’t like Drag Queen Story Hour with people on the sexual predator list, showing their privates, how to twerk, or wresting, it is not that you are making a reasonable argument that kindergartners ought not to be exposed or put at risk, you are a homophobic Gay-Hater.
No argument, you are just evil.
Compare that with the above. Corbyn isn’t just “wrong”, and would have policies bad for Israel and he should not be supported for bad potential policies. Don’t be silly. Corbyn is a neo-Nazi ready to round up Jews and send them into Xyklon B showers then to the cremation ovens. After all, he is an Anti-Semitic Jew-Hater! Punch the Nazi! Kill the Nazi! Where’s Anti-Fa? Oh wait, they are on Corbyn’s side.
An Historian and Theologian was called an anti-Semite for translating 2 Thessalonians 15 as “The Jews” instead of “The Jewish Leaders” on an evangelical’s national show. Rabbi Boteach says the new Testament is “anti-Semitic”.
Just as there isn’t enough actual racism or racists, we need to create hoaxes, there isn’t enough actual Jew-hatred (where someone even wishes ill), so the word has been expanded from the Holocaust to where any disagreement with any Jew is labeled anti-Semitic hate.
It is a sign of maturity that I can disagree with you without hating you. And that I can accept someone disagrees with me even about something very important (e.g. Abortion, 2nd Amendment, Gay Marriage) without assigning hatred and bigotry to them. One can disagree. One can be wrong. Hatred and/or bigotry is a whole level beyond.
Consider Gibson’s Bakery. That was their problem, they were labeled racist bigot haters. Case closed?
I don’t think Israel should be building any more “settlements” right now, and they should try to depopulate them. I think they shouldn’t allow (the sometimes fraudlent) study the Torah exemption to IDF service. They need someone (perhaps the lefty Pope Francis? I’m open to suggestions) to negotiate with the Palestinians as they aren’t 100% terrorists seeking genocide, so maybe we can find the root of the disagreements and figure out how to settle them.
For that I guess I’m just like Corbyn and you think I’m a bigoted anti-Semitic Jew-hater and want them all genocided?
I really don’t, from the earliest, the Catholic Church has said “Thou shall not harm the Jew”. That is what I believed. And that “the Peacemakers … will be called sons of God”.
When it comes to Jewish issues, the right seems to become worse than the most evil SJW attack mob. They cannot talk, discuss, or say “Here is the clear evidence”. No, they will deplatform like the anti-BDS oaths Texas passed. Censor. Attack the first Amendment. But that will leave them with no allies. Talib and Omar on the left won’t accept them, and the liberty free speech right will eventually say “no!”.
I want to say I’m on your side and maybe I’m wrong but convince me with arguments and evidence, not with invective, insults, censorship and deplatforming.
“Corbyn is a neo-Nazi ready to round up Jews”
You write that sarcastically, but Corbyn does support terrorists whose intentions are genocidal, and in fact he laid a wreath in one notorious ceremony. Furthermore, the moral standards that Corbyn claims to apply are standards that he does not apply to Israel’s enemies whose atrocities and intentions he excuses or denies.
“I’m open to suggestions) to negotiate with the Palestinians as they aren’t 100% terrorists seeking genocide, so maybe we can find the root of the disagreements and figure out how to settle them.”
Negotiate with who? All such attempts have so far failed. The “root of the disagreements” is that the Arab Muslims resent that Jews are no longer under their bootheels to be molested and murdered whenever some Imam sends out the call on Friday prayers. Are you aware that Middle Eastern Muslims were conducting periodic pogroms against Jews long, long before Israel or the Zionist movement existed?
Terrorists are those who we disagree with who use violence and it is now just another epithet.
We use drones to destroy entire families, do double taps to kill first responders and those attending funerals, which ARE war crimes but justify it because “they were terrorists”.
I see two sides using excessive force, one which is mighty and the Goliath, and the other as the David. But in this case the David isn’t the Jews. Martin Van Kreveld (Israeli who wrote Transformation of war, etc.) has noted the problem. Goliath loses morally when they use that excessive force to win tactically.
Israel denies services to Gaza so Palestinian CHILDREN die, but they blame it on the Palestinians as if they wished their children dead. The Palestinians have the silly fire kites to try to ignite something and somehow it is a WMD.
Terrorism is “what they do”. But defense is “what we do” even if it is the identical offensive death dealing thing.
But that is the tragedy I pointed out. “They are cockroaches! we can’t negotiate! We must kill them!”. Instead of continuing with the narrative of death, why not suggest a way out, a third dimension, a different approach?
“Terrorists are those who we disagree with who use violence and it is now just another epithet.”
Celebrating the murder of women and the youngest children? Seems to me you have more Jew-hatred inside you than you want to admit.
And if you just cannot allow Jews to defend themselves from evil, then consider that Islam also demands the subjugation of Christians, and mandates the killing of Christians who object to being subservient or to being mistreated.
You remind me of that naive couple who was bicycling through Kyrgystan who didn’t believe in evil, right up until al Qaeda members killed them just for being Americans.
Israel does not use excessive force, it uses not nearly enough force.
Israel denies services to Gaza?! What are you talking about? What services should Israel provide to a hostile territory that is not within its borders and it does not control? On the contrary, Israel does provide services, which it shouldn’t. Israel provides Gaza with free electricity, and lets Gazans in to get medical treatment. Why it does so is beyond me, but what more do you want? Which children die for lack of what services?
And yes, the “Palestinians” DO wish their children dead. They train them for death, they brainwash them to seek death, and they celebrate them as heroes when they die trying to kill Jews.
NOBODY treats arson kites as WMDs. You’re simply lying about that. But they are exactly what they are, and are no joke. Anyone launching one should be shot in the head. So should anyone seen carrying a kite anywhere near the border; they know exactly what they’re doing.
“Some people did something”.
Providing services to Gaza is not Israel’s responsibility, that’s their government’s (Hamas) responsibility.
No, he probably wouldn’t personally do that, but he knowingly supports those who would. Just as English antisemites before and during WW2 were happy that the Germans were doing the dirty work that they themselves would never do, and refused any opportunity to stop them. Corbyn would agree with Lord Moyne: “What would we do with a million Jews?”
This is exactly the same as saying, during the height of KKK violence against black people, that the US should not allow black people to settle in areas where that goes on, and should try to make black people move out of such areas.
I don’t see how that’s any of your business; the problem could easily be solved by abolishing conscription, raising the IDF pay, and increasing the privileges reserved for veterans. It could also be solved by recognizing Torah study as a vital part of the IDF’s defense program, and establishing military yeshivos where those assigned to that duty would study in uniform. Preferably both of these solutions. Zehut supported the first; unfortunately it went down in flames. In any case, people who are neither Israeli nor Jewish have no dog in that fight.
Their leadership are 100% terrorists seeking genocide. Those who aren’t aren’t a problem, and don’t need to be negotiated with; they’re welcome to live in peace in Israel.
I think you’re someone who has unconsciously absorbed antisemitic views since childhood, and while you don’t consciously want us all genocided it wouldn’t bother you too much if some evil nation were to do it. You’d lament and condemn it, but somewhere inside you would feel relieved.
That’s not true. The Church has, mostly, said “Thou shalt not kill the Jew”, or at least not all of us, but it has supported persecuting the Jew and making him live in misery, as an object lesson of what happens to those who reject Christ. It only repented of this view quite recently, and only parts of it have done so.
And here you lapse into falsehood. The anti-BDS declarations Texas required from government contractors were exactly the same as the declarations every government entity in the USA requires from its contractors that they don’t discriminate on the basis or race, sex, etc. It’s illegal for a business to discriminate on those grounds, and if it wants to do business with the government it must certify that it doesn’t. Nothing in the first amendment prevents this. The first amendment protects your right to advocate BDS or any other kind of discrimination, but it does not protect any alleged right to practice it.
Milhouse, thank you for taking the time to respond in detail to that…confused person.
Liberal has always meant divergence.
Progress is monotonic [unqualified] change.
Conservative moderates perturbations, including the first and second.
Corbyn would win north of 85% of the Jewish vote if he ran as Dem in 2020 US prez election.
No, he wouldn’t. There’s not much difference between Jewish voters in the USA and the UK, and among those UK Jews who had until now been faithful Labour voters the vast majority will not be voting Labour this time.
I don’t know any British Jews, but it is possible that they are somewhat more observant than many American Jews. Regardless of how observant, there’s no doubt that British Jews see, and are much closer to, acts of antisemitism than are Americans. Acts both in Britain and on the continent. Further, we do not (yet?) have a “Londonistan” as the Brits have, the capital/major city with a truly large and cohesive Muslim immigrant population (in 2011 12.4% of the city population with a couple of boroughs over 30%. It isn’t unreasonable to believe those percentages have continued the established demographic trend and have risen in the eight years since).
No, overall they’re not significantly more observant than American Jews.
And most of them are no closer to acts of antisemitism (as opposed to speech) than most American Jews are. The regular acts happen in places like Stamford Hill, just as here they happen in places like Williamsburg, where most non-haredi Jews rarely set foot.
The UK’s large Moslem minority has until recently not been a problem for Jews, and most Jews still don’t see it as a problem; Jews instinctively side with minorities and immigrants, and see things from their point of view, and it takes a lot to start seeing that one particular minority, or rather a significant minority within that minority, has become a problem.
No, if secular UK Jews are so alarmed about Corbyn that they’ve actually abandoned Labor then the same thing would happen here. A D presidential nominee who held positions equivalent to Corbyn’s would be the first D to get a minority of the Jewish vote. My wild-a*** guess is 40%.
I think they’d probably revolt and hold him to about 70%
Here’s one Jewish leftist’s view.
