IRS to turn over all Lois Lerner emails to House committee

IRS to turn over all Lois Lerner emails to House committee

The IRS has agreed to turn over all Lois Lerner emails to the House Committee on Ways and Means, according to a statement posted on the committee’s website Thursday.

From the Ways and Means committee website:

Today, Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) announced that one year into the investigation of the IRS targeting and abusing conservative groups, the agency has agreed to turn over all Lois Lerner emails to the Committee. Lerner is a central figure in the investigation and served as Director of Exempt Organizations at the IRS.

“While it is good that we are finally getting these emails, it should never have taken this long. The agency is finally doing what is right and hopefully this is the last of the delays. It is almost a year to the day since Lois Lerner ‘apologized’ for the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups, and we need to get to the bottom of this. These documents are critical to an investigation that is holding the IRS accountable and ensuring the constitutional rights of these groups are never trampled on again. The Committee will thoroughly review the Lerner documents and follow them wherever they may lead.”

This news follows not even a full day after the House of Representatives voted to hold the former IRS official in contempt of Congress. The House also voted to call on Attorney General Eric Holder to appoint a special counsel to investigate the targeting of conservative nonprofit groups by the IRS.

Last month, the Ways and Means committee voted to officially urge Eric Holder to consider criminal charges against Lerner.

“The IRS has agreed to turn over all Lois Lerner emails to the House Committee on Ways and Means”

All the ones their stonewalling hasn’t given them time to scrub. And as noted, only the ones from her official accounts, not the hidden alias accounts many government functionaries have been caught illegally using.

Maybe someone should think to check her personal emails

Unfortunately, the IRS can only provide her IRS emails. She also apparently utilized a personal email account, and apparently (illegally) transmitted taxpayer info using such. And this won’t be visible here. Still, her govt. emails should help determine whether she was, indeed, coordinating with the FEC and DoJ, as alleged.

I do believe she is subject to a civil suit…or several…brought by specific people and entities.

Discovery in such a suit would reach her email accounts. ALL of them.

The next few years of Lerner’s life will be…interesting.
