It’s getting really hard to tell whether news is an April Fools’ joke

    Saw this on Twitter.

From Meredith Jessup of The Blaze:

    Surely she jests?

The article from The Independent in Britain does not appear to be a joke, The racist menace? Muslims declare victory in fight over ‘anti-Islamic’ Lego. Either that, or it’s really well done.

Update 4-2-2013 — Via a reader, Twitchy reports that Lego is denying it gave in to pressure:

Remember Muslims are the ones who say tomatoes are haram/forbidden because some dolt cut a tomato and found a cross in it. Jabba’s stuff looks Oriental cuz his buildings are domed. Plus, he’s got a water pipe. The Chinese would be shocked to know that a water pipe is a Muslim thing.

Lego should’ve told them to buzz off.

I like, at the end of the Blaze article, LEGO’s non-apology apology. Reduced, it’s “We’re sorry you’re stupid.”

“The LEGO Star Wars product Jabba’s Palace does not reflect any actually existing buildings, people, or the mentioned mosque,” said LEGO spokeswoman Katharina Sasse. “We regret that the product has caused the members of the Turkish cultural community to come to a wrong interpretation, but point out that when designing the product only the fictional content of the Star Wars saga were referred to.”

Still unfortunate that LEGO caved to the bullies, but at least they got the parting shot.

Not like Burger King with their old ice cream thing where, if you turned it sideways, craned your neck, and squinted really hard (and you were looking for something to get angry over), might possibly have had some vague, superficial resemblance to the Arabic method of writing Allah.

My kid loves legos. If the sets really were anti-islamic, I would snatch up a dozen of them to give as gifts.

On the other hand, for those who choose not to eat halal foods, it’s getting tough. Some food producers bend over backwards to cater to that market. I’m going to make sure that I plant plenty of tomatoes out in the garden this summer. I don’t eat lamb any more, Cabot Cheese is halal, and now halal Easter candy:

Have you seen the size of them of these ME women? That sheet a lot of them wear is king sized. Maybe they’re Cadbury’s best customers cuz halal is a no-no for a lot of us out here.

And it’s getting really hard to laugh.

These days, nearly everything in the news is of April Fool’s caliber. Except that the joke is on us!

Don’t look for any improvement after this year’s event passes…
