    Warning to commenters

    Warning to commenters

The comment section has become ugly lately particularly as regards posts regarding the Zimmerman case.

You all know who you are.

I hate having to do this, but anyone who engages in personal attacks on other commenters or tries to publish personal information about other commenters will be banned. No further warnings given.

I don’t care how long you have been here.

While I value commenters, I don’t have time or the desire to play schoolyard monitor.

    Danged straight, Wm.

    1. Comments affect a blog’s success.

When the comment section is clicking, LI is 30% better than it would be without commenters. When the comment section is toxic, LI is 30% worse than it would be without commenters.

    2. I’ve said this before: when LI becomes the first blog to do an IPO, as a regular commenter I want to buy in at the insider price!

    3. If I haven’t been banned, that is: I try not to say anything divisive before the election, but after November 6 there is a thing or few to get off my chest. 😉

William Golding would approve. See, we’re supposed to police ourselves. When we don’t, Lord of the Flies quickly ensues, and the controlling legal authority has to step in. Pretty disgusting. Anybody who’s ever watched a bar fight or even a civil riot knows how quickly order turns to disorder.

This site has been such a breath of fresh air–that rare place to express serious ideas and exchange opinions without fear of ad hominems and sharpened fingernails. The few times in the past when a troll has snuck in, few people have taken the bait; civility prevailed. (The worst that happened was that dozens of people pressed the dislike button, sometimes even because they didn’t understand the comment.)

Everyone owes Jacobson ten Hail Marys.

There are people who make things happen, there are people who watch things happen, and there are people who wonder what happened.

Kind of relieved I missed whatever it was for a change…
