    Sally Ride, R.I.P.

    Sally Ride, R.I.P.

    Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, passed away today from pancreatic cancer.

    She was 61.  Her ride in space took place in 1983.

    Not quite three years later the vehicle she flew, Challenger, exploded shortly after take off.

    Godspeed indeed. What a great life. I don’t know if she meets the definition of ‘heroic’ as we discussed the other day, but she certainly was notable, and good, and a force for good.

    For my generation, there is something absolutely magical and inspiring about an astronaut. I can only imagine the conversations they would have with G-d.

    May the Angels lead you into paradise;
    may the martyrs greet you at your arrival
    and lead you into the holy city, Jerusalem.

    May the choir of Angels greet you and like Lazarus,
    who once was a poor man,
    may you have eternal rest.
