Bring on the “you didn’t build that” counter-attack

The moment I heard Obama’s “you didn’t build that” speech, I knew Obama had dug himself a deep hole from which he would have to spend considerable time climbing out of.

Via Zeek Miller at BuzzFeed Politics, the Obama campaign and Democrats understand how bad the issue has hurt Obama, and are about to launch a massive counter-attack:

DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse outlined an all-out response to Mitt Romney’s attack on President Obama over his “You didn’t build this” line — which the president and independent fact checkers have said has been taken out of context.

“In conjunction with OFA, we’re going to turn the page tomorrow on Mitt Romney’s trumped up, out of context fact-checked-to-death BS about the President and small business and set the record straight on how Mitt Romney has a horrible record on small business.” Woodhouse said in a memo sent to BuzzFeed, saying there will be on-the-ground events across the country — including in Massachusetts — to rebut Romney’s attack.

The memo follows an ad from Obama rebutting the Romney campaign’s version of what the president said.

The Romney campaign has maintained that the context only makes the original quote worse, but regardless, their attack clearly has Democrats worried — Obama has twice in two days responded to it himself.

Obama and Democrats should be worried.  I hope people listen to the context of the “you didn’t built that” line.  It is worse, including derision of people who think they were successful because they were smarter or worked harder.

The entirety of Obama’s speech, and not just the sentence in question, articulated a collectivist approach advocated by Elizabeth Warren and others (more on that in a subsequent post) which focuses on individual indebtedness to government, which puts government at the center of who we are as a people.

This is a debate we need to have.

I blow a gasket every time I listen to this because where I immigrated from, the line “If you have a business, you didn’t build that. If you’re successful, it’s not because you worked hard” is exactly what the Triads (Asian Mafia) would say to local businesses to extort ‘Protection Money’.

“If not for our gangs who work so hard to protect your shipment of goods from rival gangs, you would not have been successful”

Please broadcast this repeatedly till November. Because even the most easily deceived swing voter will finally see this Marxist gangster for who he is.

“there will be on-the-ground events across the country”

Translation: This is really hurting us so we’re going to spend every penny we don’t have to put a stop to it!

You know, for a guy who goes out of his way to pooh-pooh the notion that he’s a socialist, he sure seems to go further out of his way to make their arguments for them.
