In the beginning, Madison protesters wanted to walk like Egyptians

In the beginning, Madison protesters wanted to walk like Egyptians

Remember when the Madison protesters compared their plight to the protesters in Tahrir Square?

They wanted to walk like Egyptians

Think Progress was giddy at the comparison:

According to pro-labor protesters in Wisconsin, Gov. Scott Walker (R) may be taking a page from former Egyptian Dictator Hosni Mubarak and cutting off internet access to key protest organizers within the state Capitol building.

It wasn’t true, but the banner of the People of Egypt waved proudly in Madison anyway.  Until crushed 15 months later by the voters.

Folks, this is one of the things that really, really concerns me when The Left finally decides to play the “let’s do revolution” card, the likes of which they so romanticize. While we gun-totin’, Bible-clingin’, mouth-breathing, neck-beards out here in Fly-Over Country are armed to the teeth, we will still be at a disadvantage.

Yes, I am addressing the ever-widening Arts and Performance Gap. We will be relegated to using prerecorded martial music or singing ditties our fathers sang in yesterday’s wars; we probably cannot build a decent float or put together a street theater performance to save our collective lives; most of us have no idea what a ‘drum-circle’ is, much less how to make one; stalking deer is the closest thing to the art of mime we’ll ever do; and not one of us can so much as create a “Hay! Hay! Ho! Ho!” chant that could come close to rhyming. In short, we’ll have to ‘struggle’ the old fashioned way. And, none of us will probably ever end up with our likeness on a t-shirt sold at The Gap.

As bad as it pains me to write this, going to work every day, taking care of our families and not attending a liberal arts school for some worthless painting or pottery degree has made us, as Revolutionaries, potentially… boring.

Buy. Black. Rifles. …and no mimes, please!

Here’s a “thank-you” letter to the left for helping Scott Walker win the recall, written by “Wisconsin Taxpayer”:

Thank You Letter to the Left

Can’t copy & paste contents, so you will have to follow the link. It’s worth it.

I wonder if that “Imperial Walker” is on Ebay?

An interesting contrast between then and now. The Egyptian protestors won, and now Egypt is on the brink of becoming an Islamist hellhole. The Madison protestors lost, and Wisconsin remains both free and financially solvent.

I suspect that the irony will continue to escape the Madison protestors.
