“We thank you for helping to make our 17th wedding anniversary special”

I love e-mails like this one from reader and Cornell grad Jim:

Earlier this morning, you had “A World of Our Own” by the Seekers posted as the Video of the day.

I asked my wife, a folkie in her youth, if she liked this song. After a bit of thought, she asked me to find this Seekers hit and play it for both of us.

We thank you for helping to make our 17th wedding anniversary special.

    Glad to help, and congratulations.

Here’s another version which is quite good:

[By the way, I welcome reader suggestions for the various “of the day” entries.]

My wife heard my playing this video, and since she remembers and loves the Seekers, came running to watch and listen.

I remarked to her that it was amazing how good the music was some 40 to 50 years ago, and how poor it is today by comparison. Other comments herein indicate other readers had exactly the same thought.

A buddy of mine, who owed me about $10 from playing poker, was in my high school biology class. We had a substitute teacher the day we started the chapter on sexual reproduction.

I told him, “You don’t owe me anything if you stand up on your chair in the next 30 seconds and start singing “Having My Baby.”

He did. Paul Anka has been a sentimental favorite ever since.
