    What is most funny about this is that those “inbred” people are far more careful about consanguinity than the “sophisticated” people in the northeast. People in more remote, cut-off areas were downright paranoid about such things.

    Apocrypha: I heard that Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt were not allowed to (whether they wanted to or not) book a single room in Hot Springs. By Arkansas law they were not allowed to be married and unmarried couples could not book a hotel room together back then.
