Dear Harry Reid, your bill will fail, your vote will be lost

Forty three Republican Senators have signed a letter telling Harry Reid not to bother with his bill (do not click on link until you consider bonus question below):

Forty-three GOP senators on Saturday signed a letter addressed to Senate Majority Harry Reid (D-Nev.) expressing opposition to his debt-ceiling legislation currently being considered in the upper chamber.

Their unified opposition to the bill leaves Democrats at least three votes short of the 60 needed to a clear cloture and virtually assures its defeat when it comes up for a vote tonight or tomorrow morning.

Bonus Question:  Which four Republican Senators did not sign the letter?  (wait 15 seconds, then you can click the link above)

In its infinite whizdom (pick your def., mine is no.3 in the urban dictionary), the GOP wanted Murkowski over Miller. For too long now, the establishment GOP has been the party of Not Democrats and just barely even so.

My guess was: Murk, Brown and the Twins.

Shocked. Shocked! to find out I was correct.

The article at the link says: “Reid responded to the news of the letter, which he apparently received while he was on the floor, by asking McConnell what Republicans would agree to since they oppose his plan. ‘What will they vote for?’ asked Reid. ‘Do they have any ideas? Let me know.’

    Incredible.

“Unfortunately, after weeks of negotiations, it became clear that Democrats in Washington did not view this crisis as an opportunity to rein in spending,” [Sen. Jon ] Kyl said in the GOP’s weekly address. “Instead, they saw it as an opportunity to impose huge tax increases on American families and small businesses.”

Never let a crisis go to waste

Harry perfected chutzpah which is best described as killing your parents and then begging the court for mercy because you are an orphan…

I got three out of four. I guessed Kirk instead of Murkowski. Feel like it was still a decent guess.

I’d bet the majority of the people that voted for Murkowski in the general election were actually Democrats.
