I would gladly suffer through a mini-Ice Age if it proved them all wrong:
What may be the science story of the century is breaking this evening, as heavyweight US solar physicists announce that the Sun appears to be headed into a lengthy spell of low activity, which could mean that the Earth – far from facing a global warming problem – is actually headed into a mini Ice Age.

Isn't this just another version of THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW?
While we're on the subject… We attended a local elementary school's band & chorus concert last night. The teacher is ambitious and loves her work, and the students did a fine job. BUT, every single song they sang was about global warming and saving the earth and recycling. The one song that wasn't sung was our national anthem. They played a taped recording of it and had a waving flag on the screen. Barely half of the people there even put their hand over their heart.
Back when I commented actively (elsewhere) about the climate, I used to urge that the measures we adopt be reversible because our understanding of climate dynamics is so incomplete.
Unfortunately, reversible policies and open minds are not in the DNA of Pork Barrel Man and Ideological Man.
Well, if the press is finally getting around to printing headlines like "MAJOR DROP IN SOLAR ACTIVITY PREDICTED" I'd say it's time to bet on the Sun kicking into high gear again.
