Rhode Island Still Has Its Plantations

Rhode Island Still Has Its Plantations

Unlike the rest of the country, my home State of Rhode Island stayed blue, with both congressional seats going to Democrats.

Or should I say, my home State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations stayed blue.

As my readers know, there was a referendum on the ballot yesterday to enact a state constitutional amendment removing the words “and Providence Plantations” from the official state name, on the ground that the terminology was racist and/or insensitive.

As I posted before, that wording had no historical connection to slavery or slave plantations.

The referendum was defeated yesterday 78-22.

My sympathies are with you all. I don't know how we pulled it off in PA. I live in suburban Philadelphia & the Democrat machine has been in high octane mode for weeks. I worked outside a poll yesterday and they had 3 Dems stationed there with "checkers" coming by every 30 minutes or so.

Just for fun, see how your state ranks compared to CA by per capita debt.

CA is closer to being middle-of-the-road than being the worst. The worst is CT but RI is near the top too. Pardon me while I giggle.

@Theresa I think the message from Mass. was 'Our sales tax is low enough but DON'T TAX MY BOOZE thank you very much.'
