I don’t know what the American Family Association is, but this is stupid:
Permits should not be granted to build even one more mosque in the United States of America, let alone the monstrosity planned for Ground Zero. This is for one simple reason: each Islamic mosque is dedicated to the overthrow of the American government.
There are serious issues with regard to radical Islam, and those who carefully use our freedoms against us. Stupid statements do not help in this battle.

'Jihad' is a core tenet of Islam, meaning the obligation of every Muslim to work to spread Islam (including, importantly, sharia law) to all parts of the world. Radical elements within Islam achieve this violently, as we have observed. The more moderate majority eschews violence, instead engaging in something that is an approximate, albeit imprecise, analogy of Christian evangelism.
Personal, persuasive conversion is a part of peaceful jihad (an example being the numerous 'Islam 101' ads appearing in Boston subway cars), but so is demographic subversion of the political and social systems of a 'target' nation by mass immigration — many states in Europe have come face to face with this technique; including, for example, Great Britain: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article4749183.ece.
We face a choice. Muslims believe that their religion is superior (understandably; a faith that believes it is not ultimate truth is inherently contradictory), wish to see it expand to fill the whole globe, and are commanded to do their part to bring about such expansion. Part of the expansion of Islam is the imposition of sharia. (See: http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2010/06/026438.php) We must choose – either to reject the modern belief that all cultures are equal and to prize our Judeo-Christian heritage of liberty and self-determination; or to permit, over time, the 'alpha-ideology' of Islam to reshape our society in its image.
In the end, there is no middle path.
It's simple, really. If those who want a Mosque will stand up in public and say in both English and Arabic that Hamas is a terrorist organization, that Israel has the same right to exist as does any Islamic nation, and that all other religions will be respected equally with Islam, then Americans, as tolerant people, will welcome that Mosque- and that Muslim community – into the broader community of faith.

They're self-professed Muslims. We all have "Muslim" friends (usually Middle Eastern folks whose parents are less strict). The best kind are the ones that don't abide by Sharia. Unfortunately, on a world scale, that makes them non-Muslims.
One hadith from the Bukhari Shareef, the most authentic Book of Hadith, further confirms unlawfulness of music and singing :
`There will be people of my Ummah who will seek to make lawful; fornication, wine-drinking and the use of ma`aazif ( musical instruments ).`
Detailed analysis of the arabic word `ma`aazif ` shows that it refers to musical instruments, the sounds of those musical instruments and singing with the accompaniment of instruments.
I don't disagree that banning all mosque construction is overboard, but let's not construe that to mean that Islam isn't quite different from any other organized religion. It is.
