Grandma’s Dying Wish – Vote Harry Reid Out of Office

Grandma’s Dying Wish – Vote Harry Reid Out of Office

In response to my post, Harry Reid’s Iraq Failure, reader A.W. alerted me to a story which should define the Harry Reid-Sharron Angle race.

If you want a good idea at how upset people are with Harry Reid, take a look at the story in The Las Vegas Review-Journal about a former Harry Reid supporter whose dying wish is that voters vote Reid out of office (emphasis mine):

Election 2010 has just heard from a member of the Silent Majority.

You know, from a deceased person….

And she was at one time a loyal supporter of Harry Reid.

Her obituary, printed in Tuesday’s Review-Journal, reads in part, “We believe that Mom would say she was mortified to have taken a large role in the election of Harry Reid to U.S. Congress. Let the record show Charlotte was displeased with his work. Please, in lieu of flowers, vote for another more worthy candidate.”

    Ouch.

Indeed. Expect the Reid attack machine to call Mrs. McCourt an “extremist” “teabagger” who is “crazy” and “outside the mainstream” and “unhinged” and potentially “violent” and “racist” and …..

But no, attacking the dead is so gauche. The children and grandchildren, however, better watch out.

Update: It appears that Mrs. McCourt was more than just a Reid supporter in the past. According to one of the comments to the LVRJ story:

Charlotte McCourt was a force of nature she stood for all things that were right and just, she was not just a strong supporter of Harry Reid she was his manager when he first started to run for the U.S. Senate, she help him win.
But she was very unhappy with him and the fact that he has forgotten the people of Nevada and who his employer’s really are.

well i will cut and paste my snark from the original post: "its often said that the dead vote in our elections. Well, apparently one dead person is stating she will vote for someone else."

That is riffing off of an old joke we used to tell in Texas, which is that when I die, i wish to be buried in duvall county, so i can continue to be active in politics.

That is itself a riff off of the 1960 election where not only did the dead vote, but apparently everyone voted in alphabetical order. That is A. Aaron Aaronson voted before Bruce Barton, and so on.

Btw, of course the upshot is that kennedy won in 1960 more than likely on that crookedness, but nixon decided not to contest it. but historians looked into things and found an interesting footnote. Just as Tip O'Neil once said all politics is local, apparently election fraud follows a similar pattern. it wasn't about defrauding the kennedy-nixon contest; it was about a local guy screwing over another local guy and pulling the democratic lever in the process.

A lot of people don't know that Nevada is a largely Mormon state. Mrs. McCourt like many trusting Mormons was taken in by Reid joining the church. They wont make that mistake again. Reid joined the church to fleece the flock.

I dunno, making a political statement like that in an obituary just strikes me as wrong (unless the deceased explicitly desired it).
